IBM Granite Embedding 97M Multilingual R2 is a compact text embedding model supporting 200+ languages (with explicit training for 52 languages and programming code). Produces 384-dimensional embeddings. Smaller sibling to the 311M variant, offering efficient multilingual retrieval at reduced compute cost. Yields a +14.5 point average gain over the previous granite-embedding-107m-multilingual via layer pruning and continued distillation training. Apache 2.0 license.
