MAI-Image-2.6-Flash is Microsoft AI's faster, lower-cost variant of MAI-Image-2.6 for text-to-image generation and image-to-image editing. Announced September 4, 2026 alongside bringing MAI-Image-2.6 to developers in Microsoft Foundry, it is positioned for latency-sensitive, high-throughput production workloads with the same diffusion-based generation and editing capabilities as MAI-Image-2.6, including multi-image reference editing, web grounding, and dynamic aspect ratios. Microsoft AI reports it generates images 2.8x faster than GPT-Image-2-Medium with 72% greater efficiency, and describes Flash as production-ready quality at less than half the price of the flagship.
