About

MetaEncoder is Meta's open-weight multimodal decision-making encoder, fine-tuned from the Muse Glimmer 30B decoder into an instruction-following bi-encoder trained with unidirectional contrastive learning. Requests and candidate options are both written in natural language, with optional image and video inputs, and the model scores request-candidate alignment rather than generating text, covering small closed-set decisions (under 256 options) and open-set retrieval over millions of candidates. Meta's paper (arXiv 2610.11316, 2026-10-08) evaluates it on 11 benchmark suites and 190 tasks and notes its current limits on reasoning-intensive tasks.
