About

Phonon 40M is Gradium's larger open on-device text-to-speech model, released October 20, 2026 as five single-language checkpoints for English, French, German, Spanish and Portuguese. It has 40 million parameters and outputs streaming 24 kHz speech, with better expressivity and accuracy on hard text than Phonon 31M. Weights (about 75 MB at 8-bit) are on Hugging Face behind an automatic access form under CC BY-NC 4.0, so commercial use requires a license from Gradium.
