About

Seed-Coder is a family of lightweight open-source code LLMs developed by ByteDance Seed, comprising base, instruct, and reasoning models trained on 6 trillion code-centric tokens using a model-centric data curation approach. Previously known internally as Doubao-Coder. All models are 8B parameters and available under MIT license on Hugging Face.

Current Variants

Use-when guidance is based on each model's tracked capabilities, context window, release date, and replacement status.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Seed-Coder used for?
Seed-Coder is used for code, reasoning, and coding. The family description and listed model capabilities point to those workloads as the best fit.
How does Seed-Coder compare to Seed?
Seed-Coder by ByteDance is strongest where you need code, while Seed by ByteDance is the closest related family to check for vision and multimodal work. Seed-Coder has 3 listed variants and reaches up to 66k context, while Seed reaches up to 256k context, so compare the specs and pricing tables before choosing a production model.
Which Seed-Coder model should I use?
If price is the main constraint, use the pricing table first because Seed-Coder does not have complete provider pricing in the local data. For the most capable/latest local choice, evaluate Seed-Coder 8B Reasoning with 66k context and reasoning.
